  1. Help! That is something I definitely need at this point. I have finally pin-pointed my paper to be on Lady Audley's Secret. 1) Because I really enjoyed the book and, 2) because I have found the elements of the writing to have more meaning than offered at face-value.

Originally, I was going to write about vanity and beauty's role in some of the selected books we have read this semester. Now I am looking at this paper in a new light. I have been researching Lady Audley's Secret and have come up with some very interesting and compelling arguments.

Some of the arguments include: Phoebe as an evil spirit, the role of detective (Robert Audley), the presence of homosexuality in Robert, and Femme Fatale. I like the idea of writing about the evils of women presented in this book, both as being dark and Gothic. There is a lot written about sexual identity and gender roles as well as this books seems to break the patriarchal norm of the society. What do you all think about the topics? I have basically started all over because I felt so lost, but now I think once I finish gathering my resource(which don't worry, I will have that completed tomorrow) I will be on a good track to read and write.

Let me know what you guys think.

Hope your research papers are going well!

  2. Amanda,
I feel your pain!! And I really like your ideas. I feel equally lost. I was going to write about marriage and its evolution through history and books in particular which we've read this semester, mostly P & P, which I liked the least and apparently is not specifically considered "victorian". Anyway, I am still lost. any ideas?

  3. I like the idea of focusing on marriage and its transgression through the literature we have read this semester. You can focus on the role of marriage in Pride and Prejudice verses Florence Nightingale's utter dislike for marriage its the oppression it has to offer. I know it may be a little late but if you need any help with articles, I am becoming a professional article finder. I am still way lost, but I am sure we will both have this wrapped up and ready to go by tuesday! GOOD LUCK!

  4. uh yeah i though about florence too far after the fact. So instead i'm sort of comparing and contrasting Lyndall and Elizabeth Bennett. I have to have it done by tonight bc I will not be there tuesday. How are you dividing yours up?

  5. ouch! I finally after much debate decided to write about Lady Audley's Secret and the reversal of gender roles. I am having an extremely hard time with this. I don't know if it is me looking for perfection or just plain freaking out. I am about to get typing away though. If you need someone to proof read it send it to me. I am sure we could all use any help we can get.
